Maintenance and hygiene of implants

In the same way that the maintenance of the implants must be carried out in the dental office with an annual radiological control and the visits stipulated by the clinician in each case, the patient must continue it at home following the instructions and tools provided by their dentist.

There are three differentiated and equally important phases in the monitoring and control of patient hygiene:

• During the osseointegration phase (while the implant integrates with the bone).

• After the prosthetic restoration.

• During the maintenance phase.

Correct maintenance should be based on the following aspects:

• Review and evaluation of the implants.

• Review and evaluation of the prosthesis on implants.

• Mechanical oral hygiene at the dentist.

• Radiological control through X-rays.

• Oral hygiene of the patient at her home.
